The Federal Labor Government will provide $15 million in funding to improve the Boundary Road Interchange near Narangba, the next stage in the targeted upgrade of the Bruce Highway between Caboolture and Caloundra.

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said the Interchange is becoming increasingly congested and hazardous as the number of vehicles using it rises to more than 100,000 a day.

“The multimillion dollar, fully-Federally funded project will improve the flow of traffic through the Interchange as well as along the Highway itself, a result which will deliver faster, safer and less frustrating driving conditions,” said Mr Albanese.

“The project will lengthen the northbound exit ramp as well as provide separate left and right turning lanes on to Boundary Road. On the Brisbane-bound side of the Highway a new dedicated left turning lane will be installed.

“This project is the latest addition to the unprecedented $3.3 billion capital works program currently being rolled out along the entire length of the Bruce Highway. In fact compared to the former Howard Government, Federal Labor is investing more than twice as much in about half the time.”

The upgrade of the Boundary Road Interchange is in addition to a new interchange being built further north along the Bruce Highway replacing the existing intersections with Roys Road and Bells Creek Road and the upgrade of the Pumicestone Road Interchange.

Petrie MP Yvette D’Ath welcomed this funding as an important step towards improving congestion in the area, with work on the project expected to begin the middle of this year.

“These improvements will improve the safety for the thousands of motorists who use this Interchange every day as well as reduce congestion by improving the flow of traffic on and off the Highway,” said Ms D’Ath.
