Ipswich Motorway Stage One seeks contracts

Posted On May 24, 2016

The Queensland government is inviting companies to bid for work on Stage One of the Ipswich Motorway upgrade.

Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said the project was one of South East Queensland’s most significant road projects.

“My government committed $200 million towards the first stage of upgrading the Ipswich Motorway, to ensure this project became a reality,” Palaszczuk said.

“I’m pleased to announce Stage One of the Ipswich Motorway upgrade between Rocklea and Darra contract procurement has begun with the call for proposals and registrations of interest.”

Currently more than 85,000 motorists utilise the Rocklea to Darra section daily, including up to 12,000 trucks.

Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports, Mark Bailey, said the works were expected to create around 470 jobs.

“Industry has a keen eye on the project which ensures there will be healthy competition between proponents,” Bailey said.

“We’re asking for innovation and capability from industry to make certain we get a solution that serves road users and delivers value for money.”

Major construction is scheduled to start 2017.
