The upcoming concrete girders installation signifies the beginning of the next major phase for the upgrade that aims to reduce congestion and improve safety for commuters.
To support the new Boundary Road overpass, 68 girders will be installed across the highway, with the first lot to be installed at the northbound Bruce Highway, before progressing east until the installation is finished at the southbound exit.
With installations beginning now, the project team is aiming to have the works finished by January, barring any unfortunate circumstances such as weather. With the majority of the works being done at night, diversions and delays will be limited but still present. Traffic control officers and appropriate signage will be installed to help commuters through the diversion routes.
It is expected that 100 jobs will be supported throughout the course of the entire Boundary Road/Bruce Highway project that is expected to be finished by the middle of 2018.
Minister for Infrastructure Darren Chester spoke of the benefits the new bridge will have for the community.
“The new bridge was a key component of the Boundary Road Upgrade project and would transform the growing North Lakes community by increasing traffic capacity and flow.”
