D’Aguilar Highway upgrade works to begin soon

Posted On July 31, 2017

The $1.55m road upgrades between Frances Street and Mount Mee Road on the D’Aguilar Highway are set to begin in early August.

Acting Roads and Road Safety Minister Steven Miles said providing the upgrades would better cater for traffic demands in the area, leading to less crashes.

“Motorist safety is a priority for the Palaszczuk Government,” Mr Miles said.

“This $1.55 million project will be delivered through the Palaszczuk Government’s Safer Roads Sooner Program which provides road safety improvements at locations with a recorded crash history.

“The upgrades aim to address this issue by providing dedicated right-turn lanes on the D’Aguilar Highway at Frances Street, Bleakley Street and Mount Mee Road intersections.

“Accessing the D’Aguilar Corner Store, Hotel/Motel and the Puma Petrol Station will be easier and safer with new dedicated turning lanes to be constructed.”

Mr Miles said a new pedestrian crossing between Francis Street and Bleakley Street would also be provided to allow for a safer crossing area on the D’Aguilar Highway for pedestrians.

He said the needs of the local community were a major driver behind the project.

“We are committed to building and maintaining safer roads and the safety improvements from this project will deliver real benefits for the motorists accessing businesses and residential properties from the D’Aguilar Highway as well as improve connectivity through the township,” he said.

“The Safer Roads Sooner Program aims to improve road safety and focuses on implementing high-benefit, cost-effective solutions to prevent crashes and incidents on Queensland roads.”
